Joanna Sponzo, Management + Sponzo Properities, on Fashion

Joanna Sponzo shares her personal thoughts on how to be fashionable in the winter.

It can be challenging to dress up in the winter, but for some, the cold never stops the look they are trying to achieve. Although summer is everyone’s favorite season to bring out all their new fashion ideas, rock bright colors, and stunning accessories, the same can be done in the cold, with just a few changes. Great style is always possible, even if there’s snow on the ground, you just have to know a few tips to create the looks that you want.

Learn to layer your clothing like a pro
It is essential to layer your clothing in the winter, and learning to do it in the most fashionable way can take your outfits to the next level. Don’t be afraid to use an overcoat, over your long-sleeved blouse, and don’t shy away from turtlenecks and sweaters. If you love ripped jeans, put a pair of sheer tights under them to give them a different look, while also keeping yourself warm. Layering doesn’t have to be too dramatic, but it can keep you both warm and fashionable if done correctly.

Let your boots do the talking
Everyone needs a good pair of boots for the winter, whether they have a chunky heel, or over the knee leather, your boots can make your entire winter outfit. This will turn your outfit from casual to trendy when you pair your boots with the right pair of pants. If you have ankle booties that you love, wear them with cuffed jeans and show them off. If you have a high waisted skirt on with tights, use over the knee boots to complete your outfit.

Pair your outfit with a scarf
Lastly, scarfs are your friend and can really make an outfit. Yes, they keep you warm, but they will turn any outfit into a fashionable piece if you wear it correctly. Play around with printed scarfs, different textures and different ways to wear them. If you’re going for something warm but retro, tie the scarf around your head and watch your friends rave over how nice you look.

Dressing in the cold doesn’t have to be such a challenge, take the clothing that you have and making something out of it. Mix and match, add accessories that you wouldn’t normally wear like gloves and hats and experiment with some of your favorite looks. You never know how many options you have for winter clothing till you try them all out.
