Press release

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, welcomes Canadian powerhouse Celtic music group Leahy on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 7:30 pm.

Leahy is one of Canada’s most renowned musical families. To date, they have sold more than half a million albums worldwide and achieved double platinum status in their home country. Their impressive list of awards includes three JUNOs which is Canada’s equivalent of the Grammy’s.

Leahy’s story began with a family of 11 siblings whose musical abilities gained them attention from around the world. Their life became the subject of an Academy Award winning documentary that foretold the success that would follow. (The Leahy’s: Music Most of All). Playing everything from fiddle, piano, guitar, drums, bass, and accordion to singing, step-dancing, and composing, the Leahys were steeped in a world of music.

In time, the group began to blend their traditional Celtic roots music with other styles and genres they were listening to like pop, country, classical, rock, and jazz. What developed was a brand-new trademark sound that garnered the band even more attention and acclaim.

Leahy’s latest album, Good Water, was produced by Grammy Award-winning, David Bottrill (Peter Gabriel, Smashing Pumpkins, Afro-Celt Sound System). Together, Bottrill and Leahy created a sonic tapestry that fused their Celtic roots with elements of choral, classical, rock, country, and pop music. With Bottrill’s touch, Good Water shines light on the band’s continuous evolution and deep reservoir of musical offerings.
Leahy’s most recent project is a new YouTube music series called, LEAHY: From the Inside. The group not only shares an inside look at the creative process that brings their music to life, but episodes also include live performances of the band and guest artists.
But it's their live performance that continues to set Leahy apart. Their undeniable musicianship and sibling connection is on full display along with their fiery French-Canadian step-dancing. Making every performance more special is a rotating cast of Leahy’s own children – seasoned musicians in their own right – who join the band on stage, adding yet another layer of family dynamics and musical brilliance to an already impressive show.
