Madison 2024 Primary Elections: What You Need To Know

Connecticut has a primary election scheduled for Aug. 13.

MADISON, CT — The main election is set for Nov. 5, but there are primary races to settle in Connecticut on Aug. 13, including one contest in Madison.

Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.

In Madison, residents who are registered Republicans may vote for one of two candidates to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Gerry Smith, the first selectman of Beacon Falls, is running against Manchester native, businessman and Navy veteran Matthew Corey.

On the other side, there are no primary races for Madison's registered Democrats.

Absentee ballots are available online here. Voters can also pick them up at the Madison Town Clerk's Office Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. until Aug. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

August 2 is the earliest deadline, and affects unaffiliated voters seeking to vote during the early voting period before the primary — Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 — to file a party enrollment application.

August 12 is the deadline for issuing absentee ballots, outside of special exceptions for those overseas or ill.

On Aug. 13, polls will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
