Madison Board of Selectmen Notes: Revaluation, Senior Tax Relief Committee and Cannon Fire

News and notes from a Board of Selectmen meeting held earlier this month.

Madison, CT - At a Madison Board of Selectmen meeting held earlier this month the town decided when revaluation will occur next, approved canon fire next month and made two key appointments to a committee charged with studying senior tax relief.

According to meeting minutes, the Board of Selectmen approved setting the 2018 assessment year for revaluation.

First Selectman Thomas Banisch noted the process for the revaluation and noted that the date has been moved forward based on a bill signed by the Governor, according to meeting minutes. He also stated that the Town would need to give notice to the state Office of Policy & Management regarding this vote.

Senior Tax Relief Committee

Discuss and take action to appoint two members to the BOF Senior Tax Relief Ordinance Drafting Committee.

DISCUSSION: Selectman Wilson commended the work of the Ad Hoc Committee and noted that they had provided a detailed presentation and plan.

He suggested that as much of the original intent be included in the Ordinance. First Selectman Banisch agreed and stated that this new committee was not charged with setting a policy, but with drafting an Ordinance based on a policy presented by the Ad-Hoc Committee, according to meeting minutes.

He stated that he would like to serve on this committee, as he is the liaison to the Board of Finance; and that he had asked Selectman Goldberg to also serve on this committee.

MOVED by Selectman Hale and seconded by Selectman Goldberg to APPROVE appointing First Selectman Banisch and Selectman Goldberg to the BOF Senior Tax Relief Ordinance Drafting Committee. The request was approved.

Canon Fire

MOVED by Selectwoman Joan Walker and seconded by Selectman Hale to APPROVE allowing cannon fire as part of the 1812 Overture during the July 2nd concert presentation; pursuant to Code of Ordinances – Town of Madison (Section 8-1 Fireworks).
