MADISON, CT — In her latest COVID-19 update, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons announced there are now 107 confirmed positive cases of the virus and 17 "unfortunate fatalities within our community."

"While we are seeing many residents on the road to recovery, I continue to encourage everyone to remain vigilant in your efforts to slow the spread of the virus and to follow the Governor’s executive orders," she said. "This includes wearing a mask when in public if you are unable to maintain a distance of six feet from others. This is for the health and safety of all our citizens, including our most vulnerable populations."

Lyons said that "in the interest of public health" all July 4th community events, such as the parade, fireworks and Concert on the Town Green, have now been officially postponed.

"Although it is disappointing, we are hopeful we can hold these events over the Labor Day weekend and will update the public with more details when plans are finalized," she said.

Beginning Saturday, parking at all three town beaches will be limited to residents only on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Proof of residency should be shown through the driver’s side window to the gate staff, and can include a 2020 beach sticker, a Connecticut driver’s license with Madison address, or a Madison car registration or local tax bill with proof of ID.

More details on the new policy is available on the town website at https://www.madisonct.org/recreation. For those looking to purchase a beach sticker by mail but have no access to a printer, application forms are now available in a box for pick-up outside of the Senior Center, near the drop-off area for food donations. We encourage residents to purchase their stickers early by mail in order to avoid any delays at the gates.

Lyons said starting next week will only be issuing updates on a weekly basis every Wednesday.

"The town will continue to update the website regularly with important information and send out additional emergency notifications if needed," she said.

"I know many families have been separated from each other during this pandemic and are struggling with staying the course, but we must remain hopeful that we are inching closer to a time when we can be reunited with our loved ones," Lyons said.

"Please enjoy this Mother’s Day weekend by spending time with your immediate families and staying safe, healthy and at home Madison."
