MADISON, CT — There are seven new cases of COVID-19 reported by officials, all are in the 19 to 29-year-old age range, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons said.

"I am disappointed to announce that Madison has 7 new cases of COVID-19. However, of these 7 new cases, all are in the 19-29 age range and 2 are considered active cases in the Madison community. The remaining 5 cases are related to college students testing positive on-site at their respective residential colleges," Lyons reported Wednesday.

Madison has had a total of 175 cases and 25 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

"The continued uptick in cases in this age range is concerning," she said noting, "Madison is not immune to these trends, and we must do everything we can to mitigate spread. It is critical that any residents, especially those in this segment of the population, follow state travel quarantine requirements and adhere to all guidelines on social gatherings, social distancing and mask wearing, both indoors and outside, as well as practice frequent hand washing."

Lyons reminded residents that Gov. Ned Lamont recently announced those not following mask wearing and/or social gathering requirements can be fined.
