A car crashed into a river, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A person was killed after a car fell into the Mill River in New Haven Sunday morning.

Officers and firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. at Grand Avenue after a person called 911 about the crash, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Emergency responders entered the water quickly, but were unable to free the victim. The police dive team was called to recover the vehicle and victim's body. A tow truck was used to pull the vehicle from the water.
