MADISON, CT – The Police Department has been operated at less than full staff for awhile but Police Chief Jack Drumm said there are about nine candidates who might be good fits to fill the three vacancies in the department.

Drumm told the Board of Police Commissioners recently that interviews should be contacted this and next month for the positions, with the hopes that three suitable candidates to fill the vacancies will be determined.

In the meantime, the police commissioners have approved the reallocation of $127,600 in unappropriated police patrol wages to be moved into the overtime expense account, to account for the shifts that are being covered by the short-staffed department.

Drumm praised the department manager for keeping an eye on overtime costs, making sure the overall budget isn’t exceeded, while maintaining proper police patrol standards of the entire town.
