Madison Police Looking to Increase Law Enforcement Presence During Summer Months
The Police Department may add constables to issue tickets and make arrests when needed at town events at parks and beaches.

Madison Police Chief John “Jack” Drumm appeared before the Beach and Recreation Commission recently and had some ideas to increase police presence during summer events.
According to meeting minutes, Chief Drumm discussed the summer with the commission members and had some suggestions for the future regarding park coverage in town and the possibility of hiring Seasonal Constables from Memorial Day through Labor Day, that would have ticketing and arrest powers.
He said that he would work up costs and give it to town officials for budget preparations. Emphasized to the Commission that the Recreation staff should not engage the public as they are not police and if the situation warrants police, then to please have them call, meeting minutes state.
