Madison Resident Nearly Wins An Olympic Medal

The local resident had an amazing Olympics and just missed out on a medal.

UPDATE, 11:30 P.M. Monday: It was so close, but in the end Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue, of Madison, Conn. just missed out on an Olympic medal in the ice dancing competition. The partners finished in fourth place. They missed out on the bronze medal by five points.

Hubbell and Donohue were in third place before the final team took to the ice, and Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, of Canada, ended up winning the gold medal on their final skate.


MADISON, CT — Madison Hubbell & Zachary Donohue are in prime contention for a medal in the ice dancing competition. The partners are currently in third place after the short dance Monday afternoon, Team USA reports. Donohue is a Madison native.

They earned a score of 77.75. This is their first Olympics. The Olympians will compete Tuesday in the free dance. They are the current U.S. champions. Monday's score was a personal best during their performance on Monday.

According to her Team USA page, Madison Hubbell is the "Daughter of Brad and Susan...Has two brothers, Keiffer and Zachary...Began skating at age 5...Previously skated with older brother, Keiffer, before partnering with Zach Donohue...Enjoys cooking, along with arts and crafts such as knitting and cross-stitching."

According to his Team USA page, Zachary Donohue is "Son to Diane and Michael...Has one brother, Adam...Started skating at age 10...Was homeschooled through high school...Aspires to choreograph skating programs and own an elite skating school once he has retired from competition...Currently learning French, Russian and Japanese...Enjoys motorcycles, cars and singing."
