Madison Youth & Family Services Safe Rides Program Needs Adults
Madison Student run Safe Rides Program
Safe Rides NEEDS Adult Volunteers!
Safe Rides has been in service for over 25 years at Madison Youth and Family Services with the support of The Exchange Club of Madison. Typically, Safe Rides is touted as a student to student ride share program that provides a safe way for Madison students to get home on Friday and Saturday Nights. However, the adult volunteers are just as important as the student volunteers! Without adult supervision, the shifts don’t take place and for the first time in a long time, Safe Rides is in danger of cutting back its service due to a small pool of adult volunteers. So we need you!
Adult volunteers’ responsibilities include (but are not limited to); interacting with and supervising 2-8 student volunteers, reinforcing program and transportation guidelines (you will be trained on these prior to your first shift), and making the judgement call on weather related cancellations. Safe Rides operates on Friday and Saturday nights during the school year from 10pm-1:30am.

In the past, the commitment of an adult volunteer has usually been around one shift every 4-5 weeks. However, we are hoping to get enough volunteers to up that to about 1 shift every 6-8 weeks. If you would like to volunteer with a friend, we are (for the first time) allowing pairs of adult volunteers to oversee a shift. That way you have someone to chat with when the students inevitably get lost in their phone.
