Come learn about a playful part of Connecticut’s history! The J. & E. Stevens Company, formed in 1843 in Cromwell by brothers John and Elisha Stevens, manufactured cast-iron hardware, hammers, and a few iron toys. Eventually, they became the largest manufacturer of cast-iron toys in the country. During this program, Cromwell Town Historian Richard Donohue will show us his collection of vintage toy pieces, tell us about their history, and share amusing tales that inspired their design.
