Mystic Aquarium Releases 4 Rescued Seals Off Madison Coast
The seals were released at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison on Thursday morning.
MADISON, CT — Mystic Aquarium on Thursday morning released four rescued seals back into the water at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison.
The seals, which were named Cavatelli, Orecchiette, Sealy-San and Tortellini, according to WFSB, were released around 9 a.m. in front of a crowd that gathered on the beach.
Oreccheiette and Sealy-Dan were found with infected wounds in April and May respectively, and Tortellini was found near Block Island in May tangled in buoys and fishing line, WFSB reported. Cavatelli was found in May with numerous lacerations.

All four were deemed ready to be released back into the wild, WFSB noted.
The seals were helped through Mystic's Animal Rescue Program, which serves roughly 1,000 miles of coastline across Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Fisher's Island in New York.

Mystic Aquarium said it takes $10,000 just to treat one seal. Before Thursday, the aquarium had released nine seals in 2024, according to their website.
