Nature Journaling:

Veriditas, The Greening Power of God with Jan Blencowe

March 12, 2016 9:30am - 3:00 pm $50

There is a wonderful healing to be found in nature. “Veriditas,” a word coined by the 12th century abbess and mystic, Hildegard Von Bingen, describes nature’s divine healing power. March days are filled with energy and excitement as Nature stirs, renewing herself as spring unfolds. After the chill of winter we’ll stroll the grounds, open our eyes, hearts and nature journals to document what has survived the winter and is now emerging in spring, both in the landscape and in ourselves. Our focus will be on plants, but participants may find other natural objects as well to sketch as they walk the grounds. Using simple line drawing techniques and easy and free flowing watercolors we will capture the renewed vitality we feel in spring. We’ll also explore the power of words to enhance our pages and convey deeper layers of meaning as we delve into the meaning of veriditas in our lives. All levels are welcome, no prior experience is necessary. Fee includes program and lunch.

Participants should bring their own materials, which should include a hardbound sketchbook with 140 lb. watercolor paper (hot or cold press) or mixed media paper in it. A water brush ( brush that holds water in the handle), or a #6 round paint brush, small water container with a lid, a pencil, and a waterproof pen,( Ultra Fine Point Sharpie, Sakura Micron etc.) For questions about supplies contact jan.blencowe@comcast.net .
