New Hollywood Gems Film Series at The Kate

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, "the Kate", is pleased to introduce a new Hollywood Gems matinee film series.

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, is pleased to introduce a new Hollywood Gems matinee film series featuring classic movies of the golden age. The first film is Father of the Bride on Thursday, January 26 at 2 pm shown in the theater on the Kate’s big screen with surround sound. This 1950 release stars Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor and was directed by Vincent Minnelli. Father of the Bride was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay.

“The Kate has always shown classic Katharine Hepburn films so this new series truly complements other programs,” said Brett Elliott, executive director. “Weekday visitors can enjoy a tour of the Katharine Hepburn Museum with a matinee movie and we hope they’ll also explore local shops and restaurants while in Old Saybrook.”

Upcoming films in the series include Gaslight (1944), directed by Katharine Hepburn’s frequent collaborator and good friend George Cukor, on February 22 and Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), and Casablanca (1942) this spring. The Hollywood Gems series is generously supported by Jeff and Kristin Cunningham.
