PPACA, Affordable Care Act, Health Care Reform, Obamacare... confused ? The legislation that started at 750 pages and is now over 2700 pages will go into full swing January 1, 2014. As individuals, we will be required to have health insurance or pay a fine (tax). As employers, coverage is required to all F/T staff if your company is over 50 employees and if you don't provide coverage, you will get a very large bill from the IRS. There are many positive aspects of Reform including the fact that no one will be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. The downside is that the rates for these health plans are expected to skyrocket making me wonder what part of this legislation will be considered "affordable". Is government getting into a business where they don't belong or will this be a solution to one of nation's biggest issues ?
