Obituary: ​Gloria F. McDermott, 92, Formerly Of Madison

Gloria was an avid gardener and member of Madison Garden Club, serving as club secretary for several years.

Gloria F. McDermott of Bradenton FL, formerly of Madison CT, died peacefully February 22, 2019 at age 92 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas M. McDermott. Born in Port Chester NY on Oct. 12, 1926 to the late John and Florence Gregory, Gloria resided in Rye and New Rochelle NY, attending Ursuline Academy and receiving her undergraduate degree from the College of New Rochelle.

A gifted artist and designer, she worked for a number of design studios including Norcross Greeting Cards as well as Terrytoons Studios in New Rochelle, where she drew the iconic cartoon Mighty Mouse. After marrying Tom, they settled in Connecticut and raised their family in Wallingford and Madison. Gloria went on to earned her master’s degree from SCSU and worked as a high school art teacher and realtor.

Gloria was an avid gardener and member of Madison Garden Club, serving as club secretary for several years. She also volunteered providing floral arrangements for St. Margaret’s Church of Madison. She was a friend to all animals, and provided a home to dozens over the years. After retirement, Gloria and Tom relocated to Bradenton FL, where Gloria was involved in the art community and volunteered for many community agencies. She was a communicate of St. Margaret’s Church (Madison CT) and Saints Peter & Paul the Apostles Church (Bradenton FL).

Gloria was predeceased by her husband, parents and brother Robert Gregory and sister Jacqueline Moreau. She leaves her seven children: Melissa Quiming (Frank), Beth May (Gene), Thomas (Rima), Lori Di Paola (John), Christopher (Lucy), Maureen Drouin (Robert), Jackie Fortoul (Darry), as well as 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A mass of Christian burial will be held May 11 in Bradenton FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please donate to your local animal shelter or consider adopting a needy pet.
