Obituary: ​John (Ibby) Ibberson, 84, of Madison

John remained active in Madison, particularly with youth sports, including Little League baseball, basketball, and soccer.

John (Ibby) Ibberson died peacefully at his home of 49 years in Madison, Connecticut. He was born in 1932 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of Margaret and Glenn L. Ibberson.

He is survived by his cherished and loving wife of 59 years, Geraldine, and his four children; Cheryl Robin and her husband Christian of Dade City, Florida, John Jr. of Madison, William Glenn of New London, Connecticut, and Daniel and his wife Dawn of Baltimore, Maryland.

John has one sister, Jane Disbrow, of Wilmington,Delaware. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren who he adored very much; Shannon, Kaitlyn, and Daniel Robin, and Hailey and Hannah Ibberson. He was so proud of all their accomplishments.John graduated valedictorian from Ocean City New Jersey High School and attended Rutgers University.

He left academics to join the armed forces. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army and was a sergeant with the 2nd Armored Division, serving mostly in Germany. After the service, he completed his education by obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Delaware.John worked for the Olin Corporation at their Winchester division in New Haven, Connecticut as Organization Development Manager for five years.

He was then promoted to Director of Human Resources at Olin’s corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut where he spent the next twenty-five years before retiring. John remained active in Madison, particularly with youth sports, including Little League baseball, basketball, and soccer. He served as an usher, for many years, with St. Margaret’s Church.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church, 24 Academy St, Madison on Saturday, February 25 at 10 am. Burial with Military Honors will follow in West Cemetery, Jannas Lane, Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc, 5 Brookside Dr, Wallingford, CT 06492.
