Obituary: ​Robert E. Thomas, 97, of Madison

He retired from Olin in 1966 and purchased Shady Knoll Campground in Brewster on Cape Cod, MA, where he also operated a real estate agency.

Robert E. Thomas, of Madison, died Monday February 27, 2017 in Middletown. Bob was born in Guilford October 12, 1919, son of the late Earl and Jane Thomas.

He was employed by Olin Matheson (Winchester) from 1939 to 1966, with a hiatus during WWII, when he served in both the Coast Guard and the U. S. Navy. He retired from Olin in 1966 and purchased Shady Knoll Campground in Brewster on Cape Cod, MA, where he also operated a real estate agency. He retired again in 1978 and returned to Branford.

He is survived by Shirley Janssen of Madison, his beloved companion of 19 years; son Bob Madden of Louisville, KY; daughter Karen Warcup of Woodstock, GA; sister Olive "Petey" Stevens of Columbus, OH; niece Marilyn Prentice of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous family members of the previously deceased and survivors who loved, and were loved by him. He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Edith Madden, his second wife Ruth Evans-Onnen, daughter Maureen Wolfe, brother Earl Thomas, sisters Muriel Tower and Shirley Prentice and nephew Skip Prentice.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service Saturday morning at 10:00 in the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may visit prior to the service from 9:00-10:00. Burial will follow in Alderbrook Cemetery, Guilford.
