Obituary: Shirley K. Janssen, 94, longtime Madison resident
Born the day Lindberg flew across the Atlantic in 1927, Shirley traced her family tree back to Mary Chilton, an orphan on the Mayflower.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 Shirley K. Janssen, longtime resident of Madison passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mrs. Janssen was born in New Haven on May 20, 1927 the day Lindberg flew across the Atlantic, daughter of the late Dwight Henry Keeler and Ollidine Verne Barrett Keeler. Loving mother of John (Jean) Janssen, Richard (June) Janssen, Clifford (Raye) Janssen al of Scipio Center, NY, Phil (Marilyn) Janssen of Madison, and the late Sandra (Ted) Dunn of Scipo Center, NY. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Sister of Robert (Nancy) Keeler of East Haven. Predeceased by her sisters, Carol (Dave) Bredbury and Joan Keeler, along with her longtime companion Robert Thomas.
Before retirement, Shirley had worked for the Shoreline Times and as a medical Assistant for Dr. Johnson in Guilford. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and playing the organ and researching her genealogy. Shirley had traced her family tree back to Mary Chilton an orphan on the Mayflower, and Rodger Sherman, Harriett Beecher Stowe and John Rodgers. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Madison. The Janssen family would like to thank the staff at Guilford House for their loving care of Shirley.

Burial services will be held privately at West Cemetery, Madison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Madison Hose Co. #1, P.O. Box 573 Madison, CT 065443.
