Obituary: Walter Fletcher "Fletch" Johnson, 87, of Madison

He served in the U. S. Navy. Fletcher was a Tax Assessor for the city of New Haven for many years.

Walter Fletcher "Fletch" Johnson of Madison passed away on Wednesday March 1st at Connecticut Hospice. He was the beloved husband of Roberta Ambrose Johnson. Fletch was born May 18, 1929 in New Haven, son of the late Gustav and Mary Johnson.

He served in the U. S. Navy. Fletcher was a Tax Assessor for the city of New Haven for many years and was a lifelong member of the Westbrook Elks Club, the Madison American Legion and the Masons. Fletch enjoyed gardening, spending time with friends, vacations in Aruba, bacon, smoking cigars and playing Keno. He was an avid collector of all types of memorabilia.

He was a prankster who especially enjoyed pulling pranks on Phil and Joe Costelli. He was an avid sports fan of the Yankees, Giants and UConn basketball. He especially loved watching his son and grandson play hockey. His family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at YNHH and CT Hospice for the care they provided.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, David Johnson of Naples, FL and Stuart (Elaine) Johnson of Branford; his step-children, Nancy (David) Pakech of Durham, and David (Maria) Ambrose of Wallingford; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Zoe Johnson, David, Gabriella, and Hannah Pakech, and David and Melissa Ambrose; and his sister, Penelope Guilmette of Branford.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine Johnson. Funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, 06405.
