Madison’s Stormwater Management Program Wetlands, Groundwater and Long Island Sound Protection Wash vehicles at commercial car wash facilities whenever possible. These facilities recycle their water and so put very little pollution into the groundwater or stormwater system. Wash boats, outdoor furniture etc. on your lawn rather than on your driveway so that the runoff drains into the ground rather than directly into a storm drain. That way your soil will act as a filter to contain soaps, greases, grit, etc. that can pollute streams, wetlands and Long Island Sound. A little soap can be a good thing. More is not better.
