Town Hiring A Kids' Sailing Instructor For Summer

MADISON, CT —Not every community has this type of summer job.

The town is looking to hire a sailing instructor. It's a seasonal gig that pays $15 an hour.

Sailing Instructor (Seasonal Employment)

Hours of Work: Per Diem
Salary Range: $15.00/hr

The Town of Madison is accepting applications for the position of Sailing Instructor. This position is located in the Beach and Recreation Department of the Town. These are seasonal summer positions that are temporary. Application forms may be obtained in the Human Resources Department, 8 Campus Drive, Madison, CT 06433 or applications can be submitted via the website at www.madisonct.org.
Qualifications

  • Current Red Cross and CPR certification.
  • Must have a passion for sailing, the environment and working with kids.
  • Must have a positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on weather, number of students, number of boats, etc.

Responsibilities

  • The sailing instructor must be able to teach safety, boat handling and sailing theory to children and adults who are beginning to intermediate in skill.
  • Must be able to develop and follow lesson plans that include dry land and on-the-water drills and inclement weather activities.
  • Must have empathy for the students and be able to adapt to their individual needs.
  • Other duties include care and maintenance of boats and the facility.
  • Helping to maintain and clean the boats and grounds before and after class
