MADISON, CT — The Daniel Hand High School Class of 2020 commencement will be held Thursday, June 18 at 6 p.m. in the school's parking lot.

Graduation will take place in-person based on the guidelines provided to the school district by the CT Department of Education.

Each graduate’s family will be allowed one vehicle to participate in the ceremony, only these vehicles will be allowed on campus. Students/families will sit in their vehicle, but the ceremony, for the most part, will be very similar to the ceremony at the Town Green and live speeches will be given by four students and the principal.

The event will be livestreamed, broadcast on an FM radio station, and will be projected on-site on a large LED screen.

Input from the students of the Class of 2020 indicated that students should be recognized as one group, not spread out over multiple ceremonies, and that an appropriate process be identified so that students can wear their cap and gown and walk across the stage. We are proud to share that we have been able to accommodate these student requests.

Wave and cheer from the street during the Recessional Parade

In order for our community members to fully support and celebrate our Class of 2020 graduates, at the conclusion of the ceremony, all graduates will be led in a recessional parade by the Madison Police Department. It is anticipated that the parade will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. The parade route will pass by Jeffrey School and Bauer Park which will allow for community members to sit alongside the road and safely socially distance themselves as our graduates take their final bow. The recessional parade is detailed below.

  • Exiting from DHHS parking lot taking a right on Green Hill Road at approximately 7:30 p.m.
  • Right onto Copse Road driving past Jeffrey School and Bauer Park
  • Left onto Fort Path Road
  • Left onto Meeting House Lane
  • The parade will conclude at the Green
