It’s a wonder we as a species, women that is, don't collapse with all of the running around we do. Maybe we have just run a muck with our language and become over-run with the use of the word run?
We run to work, run the kids to practice and end our phone conversations with, “Ok, gotta run." We run the dishwasher, the laundry, and run the barrels down to the curb on garbage day. Did we really run while doing any of this?
We run the vacuum, although who am I kidding? I don't RUN the vacuum I don't even briskly walk the vacuum, I begrudgingly drag the vacuum. We think we run a tight ship and like to believe we run circles around our husbands when it comes to running the house. We run the numbers and ultimately run ourselves ragged which sometimes even causes us to run a fever.
We run in 15 directions to get our errands done while getting the run down of things our kids need from us as we run out of gas on the highway. We run out of steam, run for the hills when we run out of patience- which is really backwards, because don't we putter out of patience? Seriously, we run into things full speed ahead but when we are almost done we aren't running, we are collapsing.
We run into problems, which is true. We don’t 't lightly swipe into problems we run into them. Just like that one guy who was so hot you moved full steam ahead, ran right into that one.
We run out of money, luck and time, the worst of these is time. We run for office, run interference for our kids or friends and sometimes have a run of bad luck. When that happens we run ourselves into the ground and may even go run a tab at our local bar.
There was a Band on the Run, someone was Running on Empty and Bob Seger wrote about Running Against The Wind. The seventies were a good run.
I'm running out of things to say and running out of room so I will end with, This kind of thinking I've just run by you, well it runs in the family, I got it from my dad who ran the good race but whose cancer ran its’ course and ultimately he, like all of us ran out of time. So if you have somewhere to run to, slow down and before you run out of breath remember, you have to learn to walk before you can run. Now run along....
