Accomplishments: Bridget Weiler participated in the Interact Club all four years while at DHHS, serving as president her senior year. Her commitment to this very important club earned her the Madison Rotary Club Student of the Year Award for Daniel Hand High School.
The Interact Club raises awareness, in the school, about community service projects throughout town and encourages students to volunteer at the events, said Bridget. She said she originally got involved in the club because there was no other club at the high school that she was interested in, but learned that it was a perfect fit for her. “I stayed with because I realized how much I liked helping out and the feeling that I get knowing I am doing good for other people,” she said.

All students who receive the Student of the Year Award meet the Rotary's 4-Way Test. This test, which promotes high ethical standards, asks "Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
“As president of the Interact Club, Bridget was actively involved in coordinating and implementing service programs to benefit others in need,” said Phyllis Annunziata, DHHS School Counselor. “Her energy and enthusiasm drew many students to participate in the activities of the Interact Club and expanded its outreach program to include many worthwhile causes!”
Key to Awesomeness: Reflecting on her four years in the Interact Club Bridget says what she is most proud of is the club’s participation in the annual Turkey Trot. As chairperson for this event for three years Bridget said she recruited volunteers through the social media site Facebook. This approach proved to be very successful, she said, since they recruited about 30 volunteers each year!
The Turkey Trot, a Thanksgiving Day road race, benefits programs supported by the Madison Jaycees. According to the Jaycees website the funds raised, “provide crucial financial support for our beneficiaries (local high school scholarship programs, community improvement projects, local hospitals, special needs, Local Food Banks and social gatherings).
Bridget will attend the University of Maryland in the fall, majoring in engineering.
