Xavier Captures SCC Wrestling Tournament Title
For the second straight year the Xavier Falcons came back from a regular season dual-match loss to Daniel Hand and out-pointed the Tigers for the SCC Title.
As the final round of the SCC Wrestling Tournament arrived at Polson Gym Sunday night, the battle for the Team Championship was down to two. Daniel Hand held on to a slim lead 176-175 over Xavier. The third place team had 80.5 points. Xavier placed eight wrestlers into the finals while Daniel Hand had seven.
Xavier made the most of their opportunities, winning six of their eight matches and pulled away from the Tigers for the title. The final tally was Xavier 203.5, Daniel Hand 192 and Shelton came in third at 94.5.
Daniel Hand had three wrestlers win indvidual championships; At 120 Will Crisco pinned Brian Manes of Jonathan Law at the end of the second period. Jake Savoca won the 145 final, 7-1 over Ryan Butler of Xavier and Joe Demichele won his third SCC title at 285 by pinning Daykwion Aleman of New Haven in the first period.

The four runner-ups for Hand were: Matt Elias 106; Jonah Lewis 113; Justin Elias 132 and Kevin Wivell 170. Three Hand wrestlers placed third: Max Flanagan 126; Tucker MacGregor 138 and Ben Onofrio 152.
Sean Kellett of Shelton was named the tournament's "Most Outstanding Wrestler."

The next action for Hand will take place this Friday and Saturday as they participate in the Class L tournament held at Bristol Central High School.
