$1 Million Bond Upheld In Court In Manchester Popeyes Stabbing Case

A defendant in a Manchester stabbing case remained in custody Tuesday.

MANCHESTER, — A $1 million bond put on the case of a 38-year-old East Hartford man charged in what authorities are calling an attempted killing at a Manchester chicken joint was upheld by a judge at his Monday arraignment.

Leonel Colon-Ortiz failed to post it and is due back in court on Oct. 5, according t0 judicial system records. He was still in custody as of Tuesday.

  • Attempted murder
  • First-degree assault
  • First-degree threatening
  • Third-degree assault
  • Carrying a dangerous weapon
  • Second-degree breach of peace (2 Counts)
  • First-degree reckless endangerment (2 Counts)
  • Interfering with police

According to an arrest report, the stabbing took place just before 3 p.m. on in the parking lot of Popeyes, 199 Spencer St.

It began as a domestic dispute involving Colon-Ortiz and a 41-year-old woman, just before 3 p.m. Friday, police said. The woman was seen exiting the passenger seat of a vehicle, bleeding from the right side of her abdomen, according to an incident report. She was taken to Hartford Hospital, where she was "recovering," police said.

Colon-Ortiz is accused of stabbing the woman while standing outside the vehicle she was sitting in and then fleeing on foot, according to an incident report. He was located by a Manchester Police dog unit in a wooded area north of Pascal Lane, according t0 an incident report.
