MANCHESTER, CT — The wrath of the strong thunderstorms that hit north central Connecticut over the weekend extended to a home in Manchester.

A lightning strike left the home at 193 Oak St, uninhabitable, fire officials said. It broke out at 6:40 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters arrived at the scene within three minutes of the initial call and encountered flames on the second floor of the home, officials said. A half-dozen Manchester companies, plus one from East Hartford, were at the scene.

Fire officials said the roof had to be vented to attack the blaze. It took a half-hour to bring it under control, fire officials said.

Two firefighters sustained injuries and one was transported to an area hospital, fire officials said.
