2 Hurt As Car Crashes Into Trees In Manchester

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester firefighters had to do some bushwhacking to get to a vehicle that sailed into a wooded area Sunday afternoon.

The crash took place at 1:43 p.m. on the westbound side Interstate 384, just prior to Exit 4, styate police said.

Rescue crews had to cut several trees to get access to the vehicle, which had flipped over, fire officials said.

Once firefighters were about to lift the vehicle, the two occupants were extricated in about 15 minutes, fire officials said. Both were taken an an area trauma center with serious injuries, fire officials said. The driver was identified by state police as a 29-year-old New Britain woman and the passenger as a 29-year-old New Britain man.

According top a state police crash report, troopers detected the smell of alcohol on the driver and suspect she was drunk at the time of the crash, according to the report. She claimed an unknown vehicle cut her off, but no other vehicle was near the scene at the time, according to the report.

State police said the crash is still being investigated and, as of Monday afternoon, no charges had been filed.
