Organizers say sign-ups are ahead of last year's pace and remind residents that every entry fee helps support Rebuilding Together of Manchester and Habitat for Humanity of North Central Connecticut.
2. Manchester domestic assault arrest led police to illegal firearms, warrant says (nhregister.com) — Manchester police say a woman's domestic violence complaint led them to seize multiple illegal firearms, including banned assault-style weapons, from a local man already under several protective orders. The warrant details alleged threats, thrown objects, and intimidation tied to the victim's immigration status, which Graham denies. He remains jailed on high bonds and is due in Manchester court in November.
3. Manchester Firefighter Retires After 25-Year Career (patch.com) — A longtime Manchester firefighter, Mike Hoehn, has retired after 25 years serving on the town's busiest ladder companies and mentoring countless colleagues. He earned multiple life-saving and bravery recognitions, including a Purple Heart after being injured in a 2013 Main Street fire, and helped build the department's Peer Support Team before finishing his final shift Wednesday.
4. Moped operator has life-threatening injuries after crash in Manchester (wtnh.com) — A serious crash on Pleasant Valley Road in Manchester left a 35-year-old moped operator with life-threatening injuries Thursday night and has a stretch of the road closed between 1436 Pleasant Valley Road and Buckland Street. Police say the car driver stayed and cooperated, and they're asking any witnesses to contact Officer Sinopoli as the investigation continues.
5. Manchester Man Killed In I-84 Crash In East Hartford: Police (patch.com) — A 55-year-old Manchester resident, Gregory M. Allen, died after his Honda CR-V left I-84 westbound near Exit 57 in East Hartford, struck a sign, and rolled Wednesday morning. State police say he later died at Hartford Hospital and are asking anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage from the area to contact Troop H in Hartford.
