Assumption School Welcomes New Daisy Girl Scout Troop 10679 at Investiture Ceremony on March 22

Assumption School Welcomes New Daisy Girl Scouts; Troop 10679 Celebrates Investiture with Ceremony for Families and Friends on March 22

by Karen Bray

Eight Kindergarten and First Grade students of
Assumption School in Manchester enjoyed a formal while fun investiture ceremony on Friday, March 22, becoming the first members of Daisy Troop 10679. They wore
Daisy-blue uniforms, with their left shoulders ready for their Girl Scout pins. To meet investiture requirements, the girls had learned some Girl Scout history, the Girl Scout Promise, and what it means to live by the Girl Scout
Law.

Families and friends watched the freshly minted
Daisy Scouts place ‘learning petals’ onto the “Promise Center,” a daisy with ten petals representing the Girl Scout Law. Each girl affixed her petal, announced its significance, and promised to keep the Girl Scout Law to be: honest and fair; friendly and helpful; considerate and caring; courageous and strong; responsible for what I say and do; respect myself and others; respect authority; use resources wisely; make the world a better place; and be a sister to every Girl Scout.

The following girls were then called by Troop
Leaders Meghan Kearney and Amy Zidovsky to receive pins: Stefaniya Barbieri, Alysa Felici, Tricia Kearney, Jillian Klemyk, Jasmine Kyeremeh, Mary LaMonica, Kaitlyn Soto, and Marah Zidovsky.

The ceremony also included a Friendship Circle, a special part of every Daisy meeting when the girls stand to face the flag, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Girl Scout Promise, and sing the traditional “Make New Friends” song. At each meeting they sit in the circle with their
leaders and talk about Troop activities, their learning experiences, their commitments to the Girl Scout Law, and what they have done since the last meeting to keep the Girl Scout Promise.

Daisy Troop 10679, initiated in January 2013,
was twice affected by snowstorms. One cancelled their second meeting and another postponed the investiture. They still managed to accomplish Girl Scout business and were proud when Troop 10679 earned the ‘Courageous and Strong Petal’ by interacting safely with the public and selling cookies at Buckland Hills Mall and after Mass at Assumption Church.

The investiture, at which every girl recited flawlessly and demonstrated patriotism through flag etiquette, is evidence that they are on their way to rewarding Girl Scout careers of “Discovering (self), Connecting (with others), and Taking Action (to make the world a better place).” As official Daisy Girl Scouts, these Assumption School students now have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities in nature, science, and the arts; learn the values of Girl Scouting; and explore their world through living by the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

After the ceremony, the girls enjoyed cake and conversation with families and friends. They also enacted the Daisy ‘be considerate and caring’ promise by
sharing cake with parishioners dining at Assumption Church Hall’s Lenten Fish Fry.
