Sanitary Sewer Manhole Rehabilitation

SANITARY SEWER MANHOLE REHABILITATION: The Town of Manchester has retained the services of the G. S. Bolton company to perform sanitary sewer manhole rehabilitation at various locations throughout the town. The work includes cleaning the interior of 70 manholes using a high pressure water blast, repair of these manholes using cementitious materials and application of an epoxy finish coat.  The purpose of this manhole rehabilitation work is to eliminate extraneous groundwater infiltration that is entering through defects within the manholes.  Groundwater infiltration into manholes can cause backups and flooding within the sewer collection system, hydraulically overload the Town’s Wastewater Treatment Facility potentially impacting permit compliance, and create additional and unnecessary treatment costs.  The restored surfaces within the manholes will also prolong the useful life of the structures for many years.

During the field work associated with this manhole rehabilitation project, which is expected to continue until September 1, 2011, you may see representatives of G. S. Bolton inspecting and entering manholes throughout the Town and the 8th Utility District.  These procedures will occur Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.  In areas of heavy traffic, a police officer or flag crew will be present.  There should be no disruption in sanitary sewer service.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Chief Construction Inspector, Mark J. Czerepuszko, P.E. at 860-647-5211.
