Second Congregational Church of Manchester will be hosting its Annual New England Country Fair, Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Featuring over 20 Regional Crafters, Baked Goods, Rada Cutlery, and Grandma’s Attic. Plus Delicious Food including Breakfast Sandwiches, Homemade Corn Chowder, Grinders, Baked Potatoes with Choice of Toppings, and Desserts.
Free admission. Donations for the Second Congregational Church Food Pantry are greatly appreciated.

Once a month, on a Tuesday, the Science Center becomes a playful environment designed especially for children ages 6 and under. Toddler Tuesday features crowd-controlled spaces, hands-on activities, and age-appropriate programming that encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration.

For more than 200 years, the Wangunk have been referred to as Connecticut’s “lost tribe.” But what if they were never lost?
Their ancestors lived in the Connecticut River Valley for thousands of years. Their descendants are still here.
Join Gary “Red Oak” O’Neil, Wangunk descendant, artist, historian, and master storyteller, for a fascinating evening of stories, history, art, and conversation about the Wangunk people—and the remarkable story of how his family survived.
Red Oak is part of the Jonathan Palmer family line, the only surviving Wangunk line that remained in the area. He’ll share stories of a people whose history in the Connecticut River Valley reaches back some 10,000 years, and how generations of his family survived and maintained their identity, in part by living quietly and staying “under the radar.”
But this isn’t only a story about the past.
Red Oak is also one of the artists represented in Roots Run Deep: The Art of Indigenous Heritage, along with other Wangunk artists. Surrounded by their work in the WORK_SPACE Gallery, we’ll have the rare opportunity to hear directly from an artist about the ways Indigenous heritage, identity, traditions, and stories can be preserved and expressed not only through the stories we tell, but through the art we create.

How do you help fourth graders, teens, and out-of-state visitors find meaning in the same museum object?
Join us for a talk and hands-on activities that will unlock the stories hidden in one of Connecticut’s most remarkable treasures by looking at it through a variety of lenses. We’ll explore Gilbert Stuart’s 1801 portrait of George Washington, commissioned by Connecticut’s General Assembly in the months following Washington’s death. Using entry points such as conservation, stewardship, artistic ambition, Connecticut’s ties to Washington, and the full complexity of Washington as a historical figure, this session will find ways to help visitors uncover stories embedded in museum objects.
Whether you work with elementary school groups or seasoned art and history enthusiasts, this session will give you practical, flexible tools for turning any object into a conversation — and any visitor into someone who leaves wanting to know more.
