Child Hit by Car in Manchester on Tuesday
Police are investigating the Tuesday morning incident.

MANCHESTER, CT — Police said they are investigating just how a child was hit by a car Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday at 7:54 a.m., Manchester Police responded to a collision at the intersection of East Middle Turnpike and Brookfield Street.
Police said the initial investigation indicates a 12-year-old Illing Middle School student was struck by a vehicle as she crossed East Middle Turnpike, east of the intersection with Brookfield Street.

Multiple witnesses reported the student unexpectedly darted into the road before she was hit, police said.
It appears the student was not in the marked crosswalk and the pedestrian controls were not activated at the time of the collision, police said.

Witnesses reported the vehicle had been proceeding eastbound through the intersection on a green traffic signal, police said.
The 12-year-old sustained a leg injury and was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in
Hartford by ambulance, police said.
Her injuries are not life-threatening and she is in stable condition, police said.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The vehicle was a Chrysler mini-van and sustained minor damage, police said.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Manchester Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone
