Dress Code Being Formulated for Manchester Schools

Manchester schools will soon have a dress code after uniforms have been scrapped.

MANCHESTER, CT — Education officials will be developing a dress code for student in grades 6 through 8 after the Board of Education decided to scrap a uniform requirement.

The dress code will be implemented at Bennet Academy and Illing Middle School, Superintendent of Schools Matt Geary indicatd in a letter to parents and guardians.

ā€œOver the next few weeks, we will seek input from parents, guardians, students and staff at both schools to create a dress code, which will be shared with each school community,ā€ Geary wrote. ā€œWe anticipate the dress code going into effect on or around Monday, June 4, which will allow us a few weeks to determine what, if any changes need to be made for the fall.ā€

School officials want to have a "consistent approach" to what students wear, Geary mentioned in the letter.

The uniform requirement will be phased out, he wrote, but students will still have the option of wearing them can still wear them, he said.
