Firehouse Preservation at 32 Main St.

The old north end firehouse is up for bids.

I have advocate to the Town that this building be preserved historically as an important historical legacy to every volunteer firefighter who accepted a dangerous responsibility to protect their neighbors beginning in 1888.

The firehouse was built in 1920-21. It has an important place in our history.

At least one bid would be from Matt Firestone who has assured members of the MCSG, a group of former firefighters and auxiliary members he would keep the building as it is.

MCSG members have continued to support the community as they once did from the fire department. They have grown the annual Peach Festival into a huge event, continueing and expanding the mission in the best tradition.

We often bulldoze the past. This should not, and cannot always be the way to the future. The building represents something that is now gone, it should stand as a proud testament to the people who served a vital mission for 135 years.

I hope people in Manchester will encourage their leaders to preserve this building for future generations to understand their history.
