Frost Predicted for Hartford and Tolland Counties

Roads that are prone to quick freezing could be slippery for the morning commute.

MANCHESTER, CT — Apparently, a frost advisory is translating into an overnight hazardous weather outlook in north central and eastern Connecticut.

That was the word from the National Weather Service Thursday afternoon. A frost advisory was posted for Hartford, Tolland counties and parts of Windham County as well as some nearby Massachusetts communities.

The advisory is in effect from 3 to 8 a.m., according to the NWS. Temperatures could drop to the lower 30s, according to the NWS forecast.

Connecticut weather legend Brad Field said the warning really has to do with the usual suspects.

"We're talking about the rural low spots — the ones always most susceptible," Field said. "We will get some frost because of radiational cooling where the air sinks down in valleys and bogs."

The NWS said be careful about the plants.

"Any outdoor tender vegetation may be damaged or killed by these cold temperatures," the advisory said.
