KO Announces New Merit Scholarship for Sixth Graders; Financial Need Not a Prerequisite

Students who apply to Kingswood Oxford’s sixth grade will be automatically considered for a brand-new merit scholarship established this year at the School.

The Upper Prep Merit Scholarship, to be awarded in amounts up to $10,000, is for students who demonstrate high academic achievement, school and community involvement, high standardized test scores, and exemplary citizenship. Financial need is not a prerequisite.

"Kingswood Oxford is committed to scholarship, and this new merit award for incoming sixth graders is concrete proof of that," says Jim O'Donnell, Director of Enrollment Management. "This scholarship will enable us to identify, encourage, and support intellectual and motivated students who embody the core values of our School."

All applicants to Upper Prep (KO’s sixth grade) will be automatically considered for the scholarship; no separate application is necessary. The award will be renewed in seventh and eighth grades if the student maintains a GPA of 3.33 (B+ on KO’s scale), makes significant positive contributions to the KO community, and remains in good disciplinary standing. The application deadline for September 2014 enrollment is Feb. 1, 2014.

Upper Prep Merit Scholars would also be eligible for consideration for the Martin-Nicholson Merit Scholarship Program for KO’s Upper School, once they have completed eighth grade. A third merit scholarship for which financial need is not a prerequisite is the Tallwood Warriors Scholarship, available to military children applying to Upper Prep.
