LETTER: Peg Hackett Seeks Re-election to Manchester Board of Directors

Letters are strictly the opinion of the author, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Manchester Patch.

On Tuesday, November 3rd, I will be on the Manchester election ballot as a candidate for a second term on the Manchester Board of Directors. I have been honored to serve as an appointed member for the past 18 months, filling out the unfinished term of another director, and am asking Manchester’s voters to return me to the job.

What I’ve learned in meeting with community members is that they share my passion for Manchester as a great place for living, learning, and relaxation. People enjoy our rejuvenated downtown area, as well as our parks and recreation, youth, senior, and library programs. Our citizens appreciate receiving services that other towns do not offer.

I’ve also learned that people believe that Manchester can be even better tomorrow than it is today. People see that there is more work to be done to keep our town thriving, including improvements in education, economic growth and security, public safety, and revitalization of town facilities or properties.

If re-elected, I will continue to apply strategic, analytical, and objective thinking to help us discern together what “better” will look like for our town. Specifically, in a second term, I plan to focus on:

• Maximizing tax dollars by ensuring resources are efficiently matched with needs in the programs and services we offer

• Responsible reuse of vacated school buildings that achieves neighborhood revitalization

• Fighting for better coordination among state agencies whose actions and decisions affect Manchester

I appreciate the opportunity to serve Manchester and am honored to receive your vote for another term, as is the entire team of Democrats running for the Board of Directors – Jay Moran, Steve Gates, Rudy Kissmann, Sarah Jones, and Tim Bergin.
