Run by Shane Kegler, who is directing Little Theatre’s June production of TWELFTH NIGHT, the workshops are intended to familiarize participants with fundamental elements of performing Shakespeare, as well as prepare participants to audition for a Shakespeare show. The location is the Silk Room at Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road, Manchester, CT.
During the first session on April 16, participants will become acquainted with techniques used in Shakespearean dialogue through introductions to literary devices including iambic pentameter and scansion, and working and analyzing Shakespeare’s first folio. Participants will work together assembling monologues and scenes while becoming comfortable with the Shakespearean language. Participants will also be given advice about choosing monologues for auditions.

For the second session on April 23, each student will choose a monologue and apply techniques learned in the first workshop to break down the text using pentameter and scansion. They will then refine the performance of the monologue with input from the instructor and fellow class members, preparing it as a sharp, well-worked audition piece.
The workshops will run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. both days at the Silk Room at Cheney Hall, 177 Hartford Road, Manchester, CT. Both sessions are open to anyone aged 16 or older, and registration is required. Participants may register at www.littletheatreofmanchester.org, or by calling the box office at 860-647-9824
