Manchester Constable Resigns

A constable who came under political fire for social media comments has resigned.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Manchester constable who came under political fire for a comment on social media has resigned.

The Hartford Courant reported that John Orfitelli sent an email to Town Clerk Joe Camposeo on Tuesday saying he is moving to Moodus on Sept. 1.

His last day as constable will be Aug. 31, according to the story.

Ortifelli, in responding to a post about car vandalism on the Manchester CT Crime & Safety Watch Facebook page, used the term “Getto (sic) dwellers" to describe those involved in a rash of car burglaries and thefts locally. He responded to criticism from political opponents that he does not have “one speck of racism” and the comment referred to “people who vandalized property outside of their own neighborhood.”
