Manchester Cops Building Stash Of 'Just In Case' Winter Accessories
The long arm of the law in Manchester is ready to hand out spare cold weather items for those in dire need.

MANCHESTER, CT — As the day and nights grow colder, Manchester police are becoming more aware that some residents might not have what it takes to stay warm.
Officers Friday were appealing to the community to help them maintain a stash of "just in case" winter gear. Police like to keep a small inventory in their cruisers in case they encounter someone in dire need.
"The days and nights are getting colder. Help others beat the freeze with a donation of warming supplies," police said. "Our Officers often meet people who need a little extra support during these colder months. The Manchester Police Department always appreciates your support and are grateful for any donations for our community."

MPD spokesman Lt. Ryan Shea said it's not every night that officers encounter someone in desperate need. But just having a supply of stuff in cruisers comes in handy at a moment's notice, he said.
"We do encounter people who are cold and without means and officers are more than happy to hand out winter items," he said.
