The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
My focus continues to be on closing the opportunity gap and efforts to recruit and retain teachers of color. I firmly believe that we owe it to our children to provide them with a first-rate education in a safe and inclusive and equitable environment. We must be relentless in our efforts to address these issues. I will support and advocate for investment in innovative and transformative approaches and solutions that effectively address these priorities.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
As a working mother I understand the challenges parents are faced with and the tools and resources parents may need. As Black woman, I understand the unique challenges that children of color and other marginalized communities may face; my perspective on the Board is critical. Lastly, and it says a lot to a community when they see individuals who look like them and whom they can identify with taking an active role in government. I see my presence on the BOE as an opportunity to cultivate a sense of inclusiveness and encourage others to become involved.
Accomplishments:
I have cultivated a successful professional career of 20 plus years and a well respected leader in my company. My commitment to the community as evidenced in my involvement in the town of Manchester coupled with my passion for education is first and foremost. In addition to my work on the board, I also serve on the town’s Pension Board, and previously I was a member of the town Building Committee and I am actively engaged with the Democratic Town Committee.
Other issues:
Continuing to cultivate an environment of trust between students, teachers, staff, and parents and families where communication and transparency is expected and delivered!
What else would you like voters to know about you?
My morals and values direct me to lead with honesty and integrity and have been key to my success thus far!
