Manchester Obituary: John Cycenas, 84

Condolences to his family and friends.

John R. Cycenas, 84, of Manchester, loving husband to Emily Cycenas, died Thursday, June 7, 2018.

He was born in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven. Employed as a professional chef, he formerly worked at Travelers Insurance Company and by Sodexho Marriott at Trinity College for 39 years.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children Joan M. Cycenas of Santa Ana, CA, sons, John C. Cycenas of Ellington, Mark R. Cycenas of Coventry and Matthew P. Cycenas of Coventry; his grandchildren Alex, Zachary, Noah, Aubrey, Shauney, Chris, Cassidy, Joey, Nick, Madison and Parker; and his great-grandson Greyson. He was predeceased by his 5 brothers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 15th at the Church of the Assumption 29 Adams Street South, Manchester, followed by burial in St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home 219 West Center St. Manchester on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

John was an active member of the Church of the Assumption. He was a recipient of the St. Joseph Medal Award for his services. John kept busy with his gardening, painting, and enjoyed cooking. His quiet demeanor, love for his family, and admiration for the Blessed Mary will be missed but forever cherished.
