
Mary (Wieler) Wertenbach, 82, of Manchester and Old Lyme, the wife of the late William Wertenbach, Sr. joined her husband in eternal rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
She was born in New Haven on December 8, 1934, and was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Schwaab) Wieler. She was lovingly raised in the North End of Bridgeport as a child by her relatives Lol, Pauline, Josephine Vorschmitt and her uncle George “Pops” Ramsey. Mary was a 1952 graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport. She then went on to attend the St. Francis School of Nursing and the University of Bridgeport. At St. Francis School of Nursing, she worked as a nurse instructor and she also worked as a substitute nurse in the Manchester School System.
Mary was an active member of St. James Church in Manchester. She served as a Parish Trustee and on the Finance Committee. She was a 2004 recipient of the Archdiocese of Hartford St. Joseph’s Medal of Appreciation.

Mary is survived by her children Mary Jane Plante and her husband William of Coventry and John Wertenbach of Queens, NY, her other son Todd Hazelton; her grandchildren Jim and Maggie Plante; and her sister Dorothy Kishel of New Haven; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son William K. Wertenbach, Jr.; her siblings William Wieler, Edward Wieler and Eleanor Heimann.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 28th at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Church 896 Main St. Manchester. Family and friends may call at the John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center St. Manchester on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
