Manchester Obituary: Philip Bunker, 82

Condolences to his family and friends.

Philip A. Bunker of Manchester, 82, died at St. Francis Medical Center, Hartford, on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 after a long illness.

Philip was born August 8, 1935, in Franklin, ME, the son of Alvah P. Bunker and Frieda G. Bunker. He attended schools in Franklin and Ellsworth, ME and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958. He graduated from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education.

Phil taught in Vernon schools and enjoyed traveling, hiking, photography and his cats Chloe and Sammy. Most recently, he was a dedicated volunteer for the Braille Unit of the Connecticut Bureau of Education & Services for the Blind, translating books into braille for students throughout the state.

He is survived by his sister, Nannette B. Ross, of Ellsworth, ME and his brother, John R. Bunker, of Medway, ME as well as several nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
