A Manchester police dog has a new vest, courtesy of Spike's K9 Fund.

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police canine Dakota is one well-dressed dog.

Police this week announced that Dakota has received new body armor, courtesy of Spike’s K9 Fund.

"This invaluable contribution ensures the safety and well-being of our dedicated K9 officer as he continues to serve alongside his handler," police said.

Spike’s K9 Fund has been instrumental in providing custom-fit ballistic vests and protective equipment to police canines across the nation.

"Their commitment to keeping our K9 partners safe is commendable, and we are grateful for their unwavering support," police said.

Dakota is a two-year-old German Shepherd certified as a patrol dog, he and police dog Enzo make up the MPD's canine team. They are trained in handler protection, area and building searches, evidence recovery, apprehension, and tracking.

"Our canine unit consistently proves invaluable in various law enforcement endeavors and they are often tasked with responding to dangerous calls and situations. The unwavering dedication of our canines ensure the safety of our community and our officers, allowing them to return home safely after each shift," police said.
