MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police have arrested a suspect in connection with a Thursday night stabbing at an Oakland Street address.

After police secured a warrant for his arrest, Damien Davis, 35, of Hartford, was taken into custody Friday afternoon. Davis has been charged with first-degree assault, home invasion, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree burglary and second-degree stalking. He was being held Friday evening on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday should he fail to post bail, police said.

The stabbing was reported just after 7 p.m. at 67 Oakland St. When officers arrived at the address, they located a 23-year-old woman who had been stabbed multiple times in the abdomen, police said. She was conscious, alert and officers immediately rendered medical aid, police said.

The stabbing occurred in the kitchen of the residence, and there was no evidence of forced entry into the home, police said.

The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital, where she underwent surgery and was in stable condition Thursday night. She remained in stable condition Friday, police said.

Area residents were advised to remain indoors following the initial response by officers after the suspect fled the area on foot. A dog track was conducted, and the surrounding area was searched by officers, but the suspect was not located and remained at large Friday morning, police said.

Indications pointed to the incident being a "targeted home invasion," police said.

Police said they identified the suspect as Davis and located him just after noon Friday. Davis has been a frequent customer at Sam's Food Store in the area, where the victim works as a clerk, police said. Davis confessed to the stabbing and provided the detectives with the location of the knife, which he was discarded after fleeing the scene, police said.

The knife was recovered, police said.
