Manchester Teen Charged In Vehicle Theft Investigation

A local teen has been arrested in connection with several car thefts in Manchester.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Manchester teen has been arrested in connection with a series of motor vehicle thefts in town, police said.

The cases date back to August and June, police said.

On Aug. 20, the Manchester Police Department received a report of a stolen Kia Sorento. The vehicle was recovered few days later, police said. Police determined that 19-year-old Crishawn Broaden, a resident of Manchester, was responsible for the theft.

On Aug. 24, during the course of the investigation, a Kia Optima was reported stolen in the vicinity of where the Kia Sorento was taken and, about an hour later, officers observed the Optima in the area of Hartford Road being driven by Broaden, according to a police report.

On Monday, Broaden was located and arrested on warrants obtained in the investigation. Evidence from what police termed "open motor vehicle theft cases" yielded lab results that strongly suggested Broaden's involvement in the theft of a Honda CRV from Manchester on June 13, which he eventually confessed to, according to a police report.

Broaden admitted to the theft of the Sorento stolen on Aug. 20 and a Hyundai Elantra stolen on Aug. 19, according to a police report. An arrest warrant for the stolen Honda CRV is currently pending, but Broaden is currently charged with has been charged with:

  • First-degree criminal trover (two counts)
  • Larceny of a motor vehicle (two counts)
